In September 2022, Sharethrough welcomed Stacy Parkinson aboard as the new VP People & Culture. Coming from a lengthy and impressive background in HR, Stacy was the perfect person to take Sharethrough’s people strategy to the next level.
We recently caught up with Stacy to check in on how her first two months at Sharethrough have gone so far. We interviewed Stacy in a Q & A video format, asking questions such as: what attracted her to the field of human resources, why she joined an ad tech company, and her plans for building Sharethrough’s employer brand throughout 2023. Check out our Q&A session with Stacy below:
Q: You’ve just completed 2 months at Sharethrough, how's it going so far?
A: “It’s going great! I started September 1, 2022 and during my first week, we actually kicked things off with a 3-day company-wide offsite in Montreal. Everyone across the company traveled to Montreal and we had three days full of presentations, workshops, team building exercises. Everyone had a really great time.
Q: How will you build Sharethrough’s employer brand?
A: I believe that successfully building an employer brand starts from within, with our own current employees. It’s important to make sure that our employees become brand ambassadors, showcasing our inclusive work-environment, being their own authentic selves, working on really cool projects, etc. I do think that we still have some road left to travel to be recognized externally as a go-to top employer, but I know that we’ll get there in 2023.
Q: What do you think contributes to building a company culture?
A: I can think of 3 different areas:
- Values: Ensure our employees and future hires live by our company values. We want to ensure that we continue to hire people that resonate and live by these values as well. Sharethrough’s five values are: Stronger Together, Ownership, Curiosity, Caring & Resilience.
- Open communication: For us it’s truly important to open up the dialogue with employees. We also want to have an open-conversation with employees and constantly allow ourselves to receive feedback and ask the important questions such as: what’s going well, what isn’t going well? I’m really happy to announce that we were able to reach an all-time high engagement score on Officevibe, our employee engagement platform, higher than industry benchmarks.
- In-person gatherings: We want to become more intentional about the ways that we get together as teams, enabling us to truly foster effective cross-collaboration.
Q: What made you choose HR as a profession?
A: Interestingly enough, I started my studies in nursing!! Helping and caring for others seemed like a great idea, until I realized that I really didn't like blood, hospitals or needles… So I changed programs to switch into social sciences and I stumbled upon some business classes which I absolutely adored! I have a keen interest in psychology, human behavior as well as economy and entrepreneurship so HR was the perfect fit! This profession still allows me to care and help others in a business environment.
Q: What Interested you about Sharethrough and the ad tech sector?
A: Although I majored in Human Resources Management in University, my minor was in Marketing so I have always had an interest in consumer behavior, branding, external communications etc… I have worked in various industries mainly in advertising, retail and technology. For me, Ad Tech feels like a perfect combination of all my past industry experiences.
Q: Out of all of Sharethrough’s company values, which one resonates with you the most?
A: This one is a toss up between two values: Stronger Together and Caring.
I strongly believe that we can accomplish so much more by working as a team and I love nothing more than celebrating team successes and winning together!
Caring goes towards my personality and is also a core value of mine (remember when I mentioned I wanted to be a nurse?). I put a lot of care into the wellbeing of others at home in my personal life, but also at work.
Q: You also teach yoga, how has this practice and hobby helped you in your role here at Sharethrough as a leader?
A: Yoga has taught me to slow down, to reflect, and to breathe. Allowing for more space to do these things, gives me the opportunity to look through situations and people in another lens, bringing me to be a better listener and have more empathy overall. Teaching yoga is quite rooting, humbling, and gets me away from constantly striving for perfection.
Sharethrough is extremely thankful to have Stacy Parkinson on board as our VP People & Culture, as the company looks to do big things in 2023! We can’t wait to see what she builds and accomplishes during her time here. Be on the lookout for more Sharethrough employee interviews!
